What it shows

Active addresses is the daily count of unique Bitcoin addresses that took part in a transaction. An address is active on a day if it sent or received BTC on that day. Each address counts once per day, even if it appears in many transactions. The metric is a simple measure of network use. The chart plots the count over time with the BTC price on the same view. The page also shows the latest value as a short number. The data is daily.

How to read it

Read the latest count and compare it with earlier weeks and months. A rising line means more addresses took part in transactions. A falling line means fewer did. Look at the line next to the BTC price. Price and address counts can move together or apart. If they move apart, check other data before you draw a conclusion. Spikes in one day can come from a single event, such as a batch of transactions. This does not predict price.

  1. Read the latest count and compare it with earlier weeks.
  2. Look for sharp one-day spikes and check the surrounding days.
  3. Compare the trend of the line with the BTC price trend.

What to keep in mind

An address is not a person. One person can use many addresses, and one address can serve many people. Exchanges and services move coins through many addresses. Wallet software often creates a new address for each payment. The count therefore does not equal the number of users. Batched transactions and spam can add noise. Use the metric as one view of network use.

A missing value is not zero. Check the source and time under each data block before you compare numbers.

Questions

What are Bitcoin active addresses?

Active addresses are the unique Bitcoin addresses that sent or received BTC on a given day. Each address counts once per day. The number is a basic measure of how much the network is used. It is not a count of people.

Are active addresses the same as users?

No. One user can control many addresses, and services use many addresses for many users. Wallets often create a new address for each payment. Active addresses show on-chain activity. They do not show the number of people behind it.

What does a rising active address count mean?

It means more addresses sent or received BTC. Higher network use can be one cause. Batch payments, exchange activity or spam can be others. Compare the trend over weeks and not one day, and check other data.
